On Wednesday,  March 21 the students of St. Benedict Academy united with the students of St. Anselm College  to celebrate  across cultures and generations, the transitus of  Saint Benedict.

This event has quickly become a favorite amongst teachers, parents, monks and students alike.  This year weather provided Saint Benedict students the opportunity to sit on the lawn in front of the St. Anselm Abbey and sing. A few of the third grade girls lead students in variety  of their favorite hymns. Several parents and grandparents were able to join us at the Abbey as well. Sr. Judy especially enjoyed the communion song ” it was joyous for us to hear the children’s voices expressing concern for the poor, when they sang The Lord hears the cry of the poor.”

This year’s celebration also included a surprise gift from the Knights of Columbus. Together with Ian Synder  the Knights donated lovely t-shirts with the St. Benedict logo and “Got Monks” on the back. Students were extremely thankful not only with the t-shirts but the opportunity to have a dress down day to show them off!

St. Benedict Academy is holding its third Silent/Live Auction at 6pm on Saturday May 12, 2012 at SBA. The event is a wonderful evening out and a great way to support the school. The money that is raised helps supports ongoing financial aid as well as programs such as physical education, art classes, sports teams and a performing arts group.

Tickets are available for $15 a person or $120 for a table of ten. We will be serving appetizers, desserts and soft drinks. Beer and wine will be available for an additional cost. If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Fini at mfini@comcast.net. Thank you for your support.

We invite you to come learn about our amazing little school at the upcoming “Open House,” Tuesday March 13,  from 9:30-11:30, 1-2:30,  5:30-7:30. There is plenty of parking  available in the lot across the street from St. Raphael Parish on Ferry St. and you will find the main entrance to our school on Third Street.     

 Meet our principal Sr. Betty Roy she will give tours and you’ll be able to observe our classes.   You will have an opportunity to visit classrooms and meet the individual teachers. Your children are welcome to join you. Also, you may attened mass at St. Raphael’s with us. This a regular Tuesday activity at noon; we would love to have you there.

Nationwide  the past  5 years have brought us  171 NEW  Catholic schools. Here in New Hampshire we have 28 schools with 6,950 enrolled. What are these students  experiencing that other may not?

Here at St. Benedict Academy we embody all of these. This year’s Catholic Schools Week will showcase a few. Our outreach project is to benefit the Manchester Animal Shelter. As we strive to protect all of God’s creatures. Barnes & Noble book fair is a yearly event to help raise funds for our school. We encourage all who attend to help by simply making their normal purchases and using a voucher when cashing out. All sales via internet even your cousin in California will count towards our event as long as the Book Fair number is used-can be found on the voucher. Even that cup of coffee in the café!

 Saint Benedict Academy’s  3^rd /4^th grade basketball team wins FOURTH straight game…The third and fourth grade basketball team has won their 4^th game in as many outings. They have gotten progressively better each game as they face stiffer competition with a thriller coming up on January 21^st against St Catherine’s Parish Team at 9:00 AM. Liam, Caleb, Tom, Patrick, David, Paul, Ridge, all fourth graders and in their 4^th year of basketball have been joined by 3^rd graders Mia, Hannah, Tom, Aluel, Meghan and Theresa. Coaches Peter, David ,and Dan have noted how hard they work at weekly practice to improve their skills as they prepare for each game and how they arrive focused and ready to play on game day.

Enthusiastic fans have been very supportive over the season with parents, teachers Mrs. Hauck, Mrs Johnston, and Principal Sister Betty at many games. Over the holidays many siblings including some alumni basketball scholar siblings of Caleb, Patrick, Paul, and Tom  have made it to the game, just a little jealous that they were not on the floor playing!

It has been an exciting season and is only half way through. “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose” Go crusaders!

This year’s Christmas concert is shaping up to be one of our best!  December 14 at 6:00pm the Poinsettias will be in full bloom, candles will light your way as you enter the church and the pews will be packed. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins and neighbors make for a joy-filled church so be sure to arrive early. All students are expected to attend and should arrive at 5:45 via the back cafeteria door. Everyone else should wait at the front of the church for the doors to open. Don’t forget your cameras and camcorders!

At Saint Benedict Academy the fourth grade class started  a walking project. Our goal is to walk the length of the whole state.  We walk every day, and in every class, without ever leaving our school. Right now we are walking through a farm town in northern New Hampshire.  We went on Google earth and looked up Pittsburg, NH. That is where we are right now.  Pittsburg looks like a small town. Most of the houses are right off the main road. Pittsburg has lots of wildlife and plants ; some of my classmates think they may want to live there.  Pittsburg is big in size but small in population. this has been so exciting to use our pedometers to track how many miles we walk. This has been the best part of my year here at SBA!

Saint Benedict Academy is always looking to educate the whole child. We have an excellent academic program and several co-curricular activities. Thanks to  volunteers,  we have established a 5th/6th grade boys basketball team. The 3rd/4th grades have a large team that is eager to hit the courts.  Also, a cheerleading squad has been organized for this school year . Thank you to all of our  volunteers who dedicate their time and talents. These are just some of the ways SBA builds up God’s Kingdom!!
