Dear Parents,

During the month of May the fifth grade curriculum will focus on the following:

Social Studies         The Constitution and the Bill of Rights and Expansion of a new country

Religion        Every Christian is called to love and serve the Lord in some way.  We will study the two Sacraments that call people to serve God’s family-Holy Orders and Matrimony

Language Arts        We have a Unit test on pronouns coming up and then on to adverbs.  We also will write a persuasive essay.

Reading        We are beginning our fourth round of literature circles this month. We will begin Unit 6 in our anthologies; all the stories have the theme of “great Ideas”.  The comprehension skills of summarizing by sequencing events, making judgments to monitor comprehension and recognizing persuasive strategies used by authors will be reviewed.

Math  Multiplication and division of fractions

Science         The fifth graders will be taking field trip to the Massabesic Audubon Society as a complement to our study of biomes. Biome projects are due this week.

In the coming weeks your children will be starting a new unit on the body.   In particular we will be studying bones and muscles and the nervous system.
