Saint Benedict Academy held its Crowning of Mary Prayer Service on Tuesday, May 19th following the noon Mass celebrated by alumnus Msgr. John Quinn, Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Seton Parish in Bedford. Marian music was incorporated into the Mass, including “Immaculate Mary,” “Hail Holy Queen,” and a beautiful singing of “Ave Maria” by Music Teacher Mr. Benjamin O’Brien after Communion.
Harkening back to tradition, students in grades 1 and 3 led the procession carrying a bier with a statue of Mary and holding pink and white carnations. The student body, faculty, families, and members of the parish community, including St. Raphael Pastor Fr. Jerome Day, O.S.B., followed the procession out of the Church, around the campus, and through the halls of the school singing Hail Mary.
The Prayer Service was held in the gymnasium where the statue of Mary was displayed in front of a flower-filled landscape. Students read Scripture passages pertaining to the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary as they placed carnations in a vase at the foot of the statue. The student body prayed the Angelus in unison before the Crowning of Mary. The assembly sung “Bring Flowers of the Rarest” during the Crowning.
A special thanks to Mrs. Heather Silveira (grade 1) and Mrs. Kathy Johnston (grade 3) for their leadership in creating this Prayer Service.
