We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. Students in Mrs. Hauck’s Fourth Grade class will get to experience a unique opportunity this December that we hope will inspire and deepen student interest in computer programming.
Fourth grade students will travel to Saint Anselm College on December 9 to join the Computer Science class of Department Chair and former SBA parent Dr. Carol Traynor for the “Hour of Code.”
The “Hour of Code” is an international event that will run from December 8 to December 14. In one week last year, 15 million students tried computer science through the Hour of Code! Computer science was on homepages of Google, MSN, Yahoo! and Disney. President Obama and Ashton Kutcher, among others, all kicked off the Hour of Code with videos. Over 100 partners came together to support this movement. Now the Hour of Code movement is aiming for 100 million students. For more information, click here.
The students’ visit to Saint Anselm College is the latest step in SBA’s 125-year partnership with the College. Many students from Saint Anselm volunteer in SBA’s afterschool program and have service-learning opportunities at our school in classes like Education, Nursing, Photography, and Theology.
