Third grade students in Ms. Maloof’s Educational Technology class have been exploring and practicing their PowerPoint skills in class this month. The students’ most recent focus has been mastering the formatting tool bar and features for shapes. Students know how to select, position, re-size, rotate, and fill the shapes. Today, the students added animation to their portfolio of skills. To accomplish this, students had to create an apple tree with PowerPoint shapes and fill the tree with apples. The students then had to make the apples fall off of the tree and into a basket. Students who were more comfortable with the technology and demonstrated their ability to complete the initial task were challenged to add greater depth and dimension to their work. Students are growing more comfortable with the lexicon of PowerPoint and how to navigate through this important presentation program.
All students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 have a weekly Educational Technology class which supports the 1:1 laptop program in grades 3-6 and the use of iPads and other instructional technology in the classrooms.
