Congratulations to Ridge in sixth grade and Maggie in fourth grade as our First and Second Place Winners in our Annual Saint Benedict Academy Spelling Bee! Ridge is our defending school champion and will be participating in the State Belling Bee in Concord, NH on March 1st at 1:00. Maggie will be the alternate.
The Spelling Bee took place on Wednesday, January 29th and the room was filled with our other finalists: Andrew, Conor, and Arob in fourth grade, Iain, Theresa, Tommy, and Adam in fifth grade and Alyanna, David, and Caleb in the sixth grade. The finalists had the support of the students in grades 3-6 as well as many parents there to cheer them on throughout the nail-biting hour of spelling which concluded with Ridge’s winning word of “schism.” The children have been meeting weekly to practice since the beginning of January to run through the words, ask questions and make themselves comfortable with the overall rules of participation. Prior to this, the students in grades 4-6 received a list of spelling words acquired from the Scripps National Spelling Bee in November and were to study those words until week of Christmas Break. Right before Christmas break, each class held a “mock” spelling bee and four students from each class were selected to participate in the school-wide bee.
