Theme for Our 2013-2014 School Year

Dear St. Benedict Academy Family,

As I prepared to select a theme for our 2013-2014 school year, I looked to the writings of our school’s namesake for inspiration. This year, our theme comes from Chapter 53 of the Rule of Saint Benedict. In this chapter, Saint Benedict talks about hospitality and how to treat visitors. Our theme for the school year is the first line from this chapter:

“Let all guests who arrive be received like Christ.”

Throughout this year, we will explore where this sentence comes from, what it means, and how we can bring it to life. One thing that I would like to invite you to do this month is to take some time to read Chapter 25 from the Gospel of Mathew. The parables in that chapter helped to inspire the point that Saint Benedict makes in his Rule.

In Christ,
Michael McLaughlin
